Summary:
The Production Manager will be responsible for a mushroom production facility with a small workforce of 20 people and a production of 10MT weekly. The Production Manager will be required to take full responsibility for: The overall day to day running of the farm operations and site profitability; Lead and direct the work of all employees on site; Oversee all aspects of cooperative policy, production methodology and site initiatives; Continuously improve the process / standards of the site and implement changes as required.
Megha Food Cooperative Society (MFCS) is seeking a qualified production & quality control manager with background in mycology and oyster mushroom production, and/or extensive experience in growing mushrooms at home. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing startup and play a critical role in establishing operational procedures and laying the foundation for future growth. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in mushroom cultivation, processing & VA and the ability to lead and mentor a team as the company expands.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Overall responsibility for managing farms resources, ie: People, grow house, bag making unit (4 substrate tanks), VA unit (operations, physical security, and maintenance), Utilities.
2. Must engender teamwork within farm and across site and drive performance in all areas but with specific focus on: Yield, Pick rate, Product mix, quality and costs.
3. Responsible for agreeing production with the supply side of the business and following and driving the daily performance of the farm to ensure that production targets and quality parameters are met.
4. Working with the Spawn lab In-charge, technician, farm labour, mushroom growers, LSPs, Harvesters for managing the overall production of the unit and the performance of people (including discipline)
5. Identify recruitment needs-maintain sufficient staff levels on site.
6. Identify training needs and implementing, ensure that all staff receive sufficient training to enable them to carry out their duties in the most efficient manner possible.
7. Maintain inventory and place orders for operational materials.
8. Supervise shift of entry-level employees, lead employees in daily tasks and goals.
9. Health and safety responsibility.
10. Must be able to cover for growing and harvesting managers and so must have basic knowledge of mushroom growing and harvesting.
11. Sign off all hours on a weekly basis for the accounts department.
12. Completion of all necessary paperwork relating to the Management role.
13. Effective communication with all departments, Sales & marketing desk, Senior Grower and supervisors.
14. Responsible for the monthly profitability of the farm.
15. Report feedback and operational insights to the board for overall operations and employee performance.
16. Oversee equipment and report on any operational needs.
17. Identify and recommend new equipment and processes that will improve employee safety and/or production efficiency.
18. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Knowledge & Skill Requirement:
1. Proven track record in either growing or people management, ideally will have element of both, or demonstrate ability to develop both Fresh produce / food production / agricultural / horticultural background.
2. Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written.
3. Extremely clean and well organized
4. Ability to closely follow directions and procedures.
5. Must be comfortable with repetitive tasks.
6. Ability to work both as a team and alone with little to no supervision.
7. Able to stay on task and complete production goals.
8. Ability to follow safety procedures.
9. Ability to safely work with precision tools and industrial equipment (sharps, high-pressure systems, high heat systems, etc.)
10. Desire to grow with the company.
11. Willing and able to interact with the general public in an effort to educate them about mushrooms.
12. Able to work flexible hours and types of work to support the company’s needs such as farmers markets, lab work, manual labor, special events, etc.
13. Engineering or Management graduate with experience of working in food production/ agri-horti farms of minimum 5 years.
Physical requirements:
1. Ability to lift/ move 40-50 kg
2. Lift 5-10 kgs repeatedly
3. Stand for long periods of time.
Work schedule:
8-hour shift (Monday to Friday). Half-day every alternate Saturday
Other requirements:
Language – proficient in English & Garo (read, write and speak)
Working knowledge in Hindi (speak)
